A Question to Christians re the punishment for picking up sticks on the sabbath?

In Numbers, God commanded Moses and his followers to stone to death some guy for picking up sticks on the sabbath,not specifically because they were sticks, but because the guy had to WORK on the sabbath by picking up the sticks. My question is, were those who obeyed God and dutifully stoned the guy to death, also then commanded by God to be murdered for picking up the STONES they used to kill the first guy?
